Samsung Washing Machine Sud error code
The washer detected too many suds — usually from too much detergent or non-HE detergent. It pauses to run a foam-removal routine, then continues the cycle normally once the foam clears.
Also shown as: Sd, SUdS, SUD, Suds
Last updated: September 30, 2026
What causes the Sud error?
- Too much detergent for the load size
- Non-HE (non-high-efficiency) detergent in an HE washer
- Detergent residue buildup from previous overdosed loads
- Soft water amplifying normal detergent amounts
How to fix Samsung Sud — step by step
Work through these in order, from simplest and safest first. Stop as soon as the code clears.
- Let the washer finish on its own
Sud is often a normal protective pause, not a breakdown. The washer runs a foam-removal routine and shows 'End' when it's done, then the cycle proceeds. - Run an extra Rinse/Spin cycle
If suds remain after the cycle, run a Rinse and Spin cycle with no detergent to flush the leftover foam out of the tub. - Use less, HE-only detergent
Switch to a high-efficiency (HE) detergent and use the amount recommended for your load size and soil level — softer water needs even less. This prevents the code from recurring. - Run an empty cleaning cycle
If suds appear even without detergent, run empty cycles until no foam shows up — this clears residue baked into the tub from past overdosing.
When to call a technician
- Sud never clears across multiple cycles even with correct detergent
- Foam overflowing heavily out of the door or dispenser with water leaking
- Suspected faulty suds/pressure sensor after detergent use is corrected
- Burning smell or any electrical concern
Frequently asked questions
Is Sud an error or normal?
Usually normal — it's the washer protecting itself from excess foam. It clears the suds and continues. Only worry if it keeps happening with correct detergent.
Why does Sud appear when I used the normal amount of detergent?
Residue from previous overdosed loads can keep foaming. Run empty cycles until no suds appear, and make sure the detergent is HE-rated.
What does 'End' mean after Sud?
'End' means the foam-removal routine finished and the washer is resuming or finishing the normal cycle.
